I am not going to go there hours ahead of time to find a spot to view the parade, and then stand there in a crush of people (and I fear that many of them are not going to wear masks since they have had their faces painted for the occasion). It attracts more than a million spectators. There is no way that we would get anywhere near the parade route tomorrow. This looks rather miniscule in comparison. In years past, the "mega-ofrenda" has been quite spectacular and took up the entire Zócalo. I doubt that it will even be done by tomorrow for the parade. Here it is just days before Day of the Dead, and I thought it odd and extremely poor planning that the "ofrenda" on the Zócalo is not nearly complete and open to the public. We only saw maybe a dozen of the fifty-some displays, but from what we saw the hands down winner is the "ofrenda" inside the Church of San Francisco on Madero Street. We walked around the Historic Center looking at some of "ofrendas" throughout the area. Yes, it was very crowded, although the Metrobus that my friend and I took from Nápoles to the Plaza de la Revolución was not too packed. They're still decorating, but it looks very nice in person. I'll probably try to walk over to reforma for the parade and Halloween night, but I think no matter where I go it's going to have massive crowds.Īlso, the zocalo looks nice. I had planned to watch the parade from the zocalo area but that's completely scrapped now due to how they have that entire area blocked off. So, every bus I saw was full including the tour buses. Anyway, don't forget to bring water if you come. I could hear the ambulance but they were stuck behind traffic. The woman looked to be in pretty bad shape. Another lady had a girl she was trying to lay on a bench, and another woman they were fanning to keep cool. One man was lying on the sidewalk with a female standing beside him. Haven't checked the restaurants yet Earlier today, all the good restaurants had lines down the side walk, like El Carneal (sp).Īlso, I saw a three incidences of people falling out. Stopped by 7/11.no beer, the cooler is on lockdown. I had two masks on and it didn't stop the fumes from entering. I saw the Frida bed prop they always use, but it was completely covered with numerous tarps (rain protection).Īlso, if you plan to come tomorrow and walk around, be aware that there's a group of guys smoking marijuana and selling a variety of plants at the end of the national palace across the street. The only way you can see them is peek over the barriers on the side streets, but they're completely blocked from view. They have all the parade props lined up on the street that the national palace sits on, behind plywood from the zocalo all the way to Pino Suarez metro station. I tried to hit the entire area and some streets were basically impassible. North of Bella Artes and north of the cathedral same thing. South of the metro station Pino Suarez was crazy. Anywhere east into tepito had their own thing going on 10x more people than normal. I mean outside where most tourists would not go. Before the shops starting shutting down every street in all directions of the zocalo we're packed. But, if tomorrow will be an example of today, it's going to be crazy crowded. I had no plans on posting while I'm at the festivities. This is a news article referring to the above: Barbie Dolls came out with a Catrina Day of the Dead doll last autumn. The route this year has not been announced, but I would try to station yourself near Reforma due to all the other activities that occur in that area starting in the Chapultepec Park down Paseo de la Reforma including the involvement of the local hotels, especially during the night of Halloween, which is the most active night of the 3 day event.Īlso, just a side note for doll collectors. There will be judging and prizes awarded also.Įach community (Alcaldias) in Mexico City also has events that I will post for those who rather not travel to centro.įor new visitors, the parade(s) in the past have traveled Chapultepec/Reforma/ Zocalo. In addition, in Centro Historico, there will be a Festival of Offerings and Floral Arrangements on display between October 29 to November 2, 2021. Hopefully, they will be more forthcoming with the details than they were for Independence day. As of now, there is no further information, but as soon as it is announced I will post it here and other pertinent info. It is said to be different than previous years. Dates: 31 Oct - (Halloween, All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day)Īs of today, it was announced at the daily press conference, that the main Day of the Dead PARADE will take place on October 31st.
